‘Life Goddess’ was voted Winnipeg’s Mural of the Year in 2018. It celebrates “strength, confidence,
empowerment, and beauty” with its bold colours and details. The mural is a modern interpretation of traditional Ukrainian themes, including a young Ukrainian woman wearing a traditional head wreath (vinok) made of flowers, grains, grasses, and ribbons. Sunflowers (sunyashniki) and poppies, the flowers of Ukraine make an appearance to further recognize the strong Ukrainian heritage within Transcona. Winnipeg artist Michael Johnston aimed to represent the courage and determination of all entrepreneurs everywhere.
