Artist: James Culleton
Medium: Acrylic paint, Steel
Year: 2016
Location: North American Lumber. 309 Bond Street
This mural features blind contour drawing – a drawing exercise where an artist draws the contour of a subject without looking at the paper. The colours used in the mural were the business colours of the former North American Lumber, one of the longest-running businesses in Transcona (1912-2018). The finishing touch is a couple of steel bird silhouettes mounted to the top of the building. James Culleton is a Winnipeg artist whose work can be seen across the city, including Manitoba’s largest mural– “The Birch Tree Forest” on the back of Club Regent Casino.
