If you’ve lived or worked in Transcona for any length of time, you can’t help but see the dramatic changes happening along Regent Avenue. From Transcona Centennial Square to magnificent flowers in the summer and holiday lighting in the winter, good things are happening in our downtown!
But the most highly visible project right now, has to be the construction of the new building at the corner of Regent and Day, at the location of the former Johnny’s Restaurant. With its dramatic framing, and intriguing peaked roofline, this project is generating lots of questions and curiosity.
A wow building
Since it’s the largest construction of a building on Regent Avenue in recent years, the BIZ Office wants to share some of the details about this amazing new place and give you an idea about how it will boost the revitalization of the Zone, but also create a vibrant social hub for all Transcona.
The project is an initiative of NV Reykdal & Associates, the sister company of NVR Construction, who built the stunning Skyview Terrace condos at 111 Bond Street, as well as managing the overhaul and renovations of 119 Regent Ave, the location of L’Arche Tova Café; and many more local Transcona projects.
Winnipeg’s coolest bakery concept
The new multi-use building at 101 Regent Ave West will house a very unique bakery and deli concept on the main floor. House-made artisanal baked goodies will be available, along with a select menu of craft beer and Canadian wines. The beverage menu will change regularly to give customers a variety of taste experiences, encouraging many repeat visits.
Along with local food and drink, an assortment of programming is being planned for the Bakery, from paint nights to guest speakers and presentations. It will be unlike any other place in Winnipeg – maybe even in Canada.
And there’s more
Upstairs, three contemporary rental apartment units will complete the structure. Each suite will have large light-filled windows, a balcony, as well as a bonus Murphy bed to accommodate family or guests who want to stay and enjoy more of Transcona’s attractions.
Once it’s complete 101 Regent Avenue is going to be like the “anchor tenant” in a shopping mall – it’s the first commercial centrepiece of a revitalization mosaic that will attract more shoppers to Regent Avenue, from all across Winnipeg.
Many communities across Canada and North America, many just like Transcona, have leveraged the power of a new development like 101 Regent, as a catalyst to dramatically transform not only the streetscape, but the life of the community. NVR Construction, as a local business is definitely changing the game in our neighbourhood, and in the BIZ Office we’re excited by the synergies this new venture will bring to the Zone and to all Transcona.
